Growth
It has been said that if you are not growing, you are dying.
In Sports, it is fundamental that records are made to be broken. As the Paris Olympics have shown, many records were broken not only as Olympic Records but World Records as well. Participants work extremely hard for years and years to just qualify. Some will be disheartened and some will be ecstatic.
This competition brings out the best in each individual while they go through many stresses. Today the education system wants to avoid the stresses of life and award Participation Trophies to everyone…because they tried hard.
When I went to school many years ago, you were graded on your merits and if you worked hard and got a C, that is what you got. Now, I understand that Universities have lowered the bar and give out much higher grades.
What will we get when the bar is lowered for doctors or lawyers?
DEI has taken over meritocracy and lowering the bar will not produce the quality necessary to compete in life, let alone the world.
I remember in high school when clearing 13 feet in the pole vault was a big accomplishment. In the Paris Olympics a world record was set by Swedish pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis with a vault of 20’ 5”. With sports, growth continues in every event.
Growth should continue all of our lives, but sadly, our education system has gone WOKE with more or less a pass/fail system.
US Standards need to be realigned to meet the rigors of the future. We need to value work ethic and be educated so that not only can we read, write and succeed in math, but exceed in order to be competitive with the world.
Our growth and competitiveness in sports must be translated into all walks of life.
Even as we age, we want to continue to learn and grow or else we vegetate and die.
