Preparedness
“Be prepared “ Boy Scout’s motto.
Thanksgiving is coming and you’re having 15 for dinner. You prepare the meal, shop ahead for the food and drinks, get the silverware and dishes ready, clean the house, etc., and when the hour comes…you are prepared and ready.
When you are nearing the final exam, what do you do? You study ahead of time to be better prepared for the exam.
Preparedness is the key to known and foreseeable events in life and business, such as saving for retirement, insurance, health measures, etc. This applies in a major way to potentially catastrophic events, especially those that have a history of reoccurrence.
Each State and city has a responsibility to its citizens. California took its eye off the ball and instead of the boondoggle to build a high-speed railway costing untold $ billions from nowhere to nowhere, they could have. They should have looked to spend taxpayer dollars on protecting their citizens their property and their business.
We have been a dry state for years, why is there not more availability of water? Why are electric wires not put underground? Why are mountainous regions not cleared of fire-prone debris to slow or stop the potential spread of wildfires?
History has shown us that we were not prepared for the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. We should have been better prepared.
While we may not be able to anticipate everything that is possible, we can be better prepared for what we know will happen at some future time.
This speaks to our infrastructure and the maintenance of our surroundings.
